UC Berkeley’s
Development Engineering Programs

Development Engineering (DevEng) is a new global problem-solving discipline incubated at UC Berkeley.  The discipline integrates engineering, economics, business, natural resource development, and social sciences to develop technological interventions that address the needs of low-income communities around the world. 

Development Engineering is administered by the Blum Center and offered by the Graduate Group in Development Engineering, a faculty coalition who hail from over a dozen schools and departments. 

Currently, students may pursue: 

Professional Master of Development Engineering

A three-semester, 15-month professional training program for technical careers in social impact, social entrepreneurship, and sustainability
